13 Week Check Up

Yesterday, we went to the doctor for our 13 week check up.  We had a sonogram, an arm prick for blood sample, a regular check up, more blood work (my platelets are not cooperating) and a meeting with the benefits coordinator.  Whew!  What a long afternoon it was.  Anyway, our check up went very good.  The baby is growing just how he/she should be.  Almost 3 inches in length and a little bit of a character!  The baby would not hold still AT ALL for the measurements they needed.  It started out on its head then did a somersault and laid on its back, stretched out, raised its hands, tried sucking its thumb, and tossed and turned.  After about 20 minutes the baby finally held still long enough for measurements.  I think we might have our hands full when he/she is born!

We also learned that my blood type is A-.  If the baby has a positive blood type and our blood mixes, my body could start to develop antibodies that fight the Rh factor as if it were harmful.  This means that I will have to have some extra blood work done later in the pregnancy and will need to be given a dose of RhoGAM around 28 weeks.  If the baby does have a positive blood type (they will check after they are born), then I will be given another dose of RhoGAM.

We set up the remaining 4 week appointments and will find out what we are having on July 27th!  That will be a fun day and I just might have to go shopping that afternoon.  :)

  1. Great to hear things are progressing nicely! With the RH factor issue, at least they can treat it so don't worry too much. Congratulations again!!
